Improve Lung Function Through Boys' Natural Learning CourseSinging Program (NLCSP) as a Singing Skill Habilitation
- Abstract
- The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of Natural Learning Course Singing Program (NLCSP) as an alternative habilitation approach on adolescents' pulmonary function. The program demonstrated significant improvements in lung function indicators, including forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), even after adjusting for demographic covariates such as age, gender, height, and weight. A total of 48 subjects participated, divided into a Program group (P group) (n = 23, age 12-13 years) and a Control group (C group) (n = 18, age 12-13 years). The NLCSP was conducted twice weekly for 2 months, 45 minutes per session, totaling 16 sessions. Following the intervention with the NLCSP or standard music education, both P and C groups showed significant improvements in adjusted FVC (***P < 0.001). However, postintervention adjusted FEV1 in the P group significantly improved (*P < 0.05), unlike the C group, which showed no changes. Postintervention, meaningful disparities in FEV1 and FVC were observed between the groups (#P < 0.05). In both NLSCP and general music education, there were no statistically significant changes in the F0 and F0 song ranges. F0 decreased slightly in both groups, and the F0 song range increased technically, but did not reach a significant level. The effect of the program was limited in the vocal range change of 13-year-old male students. In conclusion, the NLCSP represents a viable and effective strategy for adolescent vocal training.
